Poker involves education and keeping one’s balance, and the most important card to play is patience. For the young generation of players, discipline and education are essential. You can find out more in the interview given by the ”grandfather”, one of the poker game veterans in Romania, Ștefan Ciucă.

How did you begin playing poker?

I have been playing poker for a lifetime. I fall into the older players’ category. I’ve played five-card poker in Ceaușescu’s time. Some of us had played five-card poker, others had previously played bridge; there are many bridge players.

And you moved towards the Texas Hold’em area, what the youth are generally playing nowadays…

Yes, I opted for Texas Hold’em. We must keep up the pace with them, to stand by them. We still consider ourselves to be young, isn’t it? I’m not proud to say that I’m one of the oldest players, but when speaking of age in poker, I’m among the veterans.

What do you prefer when you play Texas Hold’em: tour or cash game?

I play both with the same delight.

When you began to play 5-card poker, what did it fascinate you? How did it all begin?

I come from the sports world, here’s the explanation. I’ve played professional boxing. When in training tours, I didn’t play hopscotch, but any game with money prizes. We had a plastic basket where we used to throw paper balls from a horizontal position, without lifting our head from the pollow. We played on 100 or 10 lei, in actual money. There were even an arbitrator and a hole committee. That’s how things worked among players, if we didn’t pay, we resorted to other things.

Especially during long training tours, of two or three weeks.

Yes, we spent a lot of time training, often during winter.

Are the discipline and patience from training camps helping you in poker, too?

It’s all about education. A poker player has family, too. You must respect your family,  make them feel safe. My son has 28 years old, has two master degrees, works on the Prime Minister’s Control Committee and has nothing to do with gambling or casinos. However, if I were a man to show uncertainty or to cause problems to my family, I’m not sure he would have succeeded in graduating from university or getting his master degrees. It would have been more difficult. Whenever I was playing poker, my friends, my family, my mother knew all about it. I have never hidden this from them. Everyone knew about my passion, but I’ve never mixed gambling with family money or business money. From my point of view, gambling needs to support itself. If this does not happen and I start to use family’s money, something’s wrong. This is why you need discipline, especially when gambling is concerned. The lack of discipline may be filled by money lenders who represent the first step to destruction. This applies to any young man who follows this road and becomes desorientated. I, myself, am choleric, I explode. I become upset, I don’t know how to lose; it’s the only thing I’ll never accept: learning to lose. Such a thought  never crossed my mind, it makes no sense. I put a lot of energy and what I have best in it in order to win. Learning to be a  loser would be unacceptable.

It’s a good life philosophy.

Everything you do in life is fight and all that you get is what you have worked for. You toss and turn, you do your best to do something: have a house, a child, they all need effort. I cannot accept the defeat. It happens sometimes, but that doesn’t mean I have to get used to it.

Have you won in poker from the start?

It’s impossible to win your first game in poker. It’s as if you were boxing and never got any punches. In boxing first you learn to get a punch, then you start to throw one, too. It’s the same as in poker.

This means it takes time to become a player? There are many young people in this field that consider money to be won very easy. Is it true?

It’s very hard to keep your position in poker, maybe harder than in any other field of activity. Only few succeed in doing so. Those who are not here to stay are picky; they’re here today, gone by tomorrow and reappear in 10 years’ time. From my point of view, it is very hard to keep up the pace with poker, because every player has ups and downs. There are moments when you can play correctly, but you lose no matter what, as in life. Sometimes you can lose at two cards, though it may make no sense. Losing at one card it’s also possible, especially when pots are high. Those who consider themselves to be the centre of the universe don’t know what they’re talking about. Every player has moments when everything comes smoothly, and moments when he doesn’t win anything. Some players are more lucky, others are more unlucky, but you must always have the culture to go forth, to leave the craps behind. Together with the experience you get, it makes sense for your game to become more balanced. Practically, you start to say no to craps. Even if you’re out of luck, you need to play fair.

What do you mean by playing fair?

Always know your chances of going forth. This means, I’d say, to play fair. It’s astonishing to hear scores of 5-2 or 6-3. Yes, he won, but do the calculations: what does this mean, in all probability? Stroking once, right?

The idea is to depend less on luck, isnt’t it?

Of course.

When does luck surfaces in poker?

Luck does exist, you cannot deny that. Otherwise, they wouldn’t call it a luck game. You have the obligation to not force your luck, but to play fair. From my point of view, I’m lucky if I don’t lose on a card, on two cards, maybe five, I mean if I’m not pulled out of the deck. This is what luck means to me. If it doesn’t crook me, it means it’s O.K.

It means you played your card correctly.

This is exactly what it means.

How much is it about intelligence in this game? Is it 80-90% and the rest is about luck, or did the percentage never even matter?

I don’t play with this kind of percentage, it has nothing to do with this matter. Percentages are for cards. It you know what your chances are, then it’s OK, if not…

You’ve won many tours on cash…

Yes, I’ve won many tours, expecially here, in this country.

How do you do it?

With a lot of patience. Patience is my most powerful card. It’s all about education. You fold ‘till your hand hurts. It has nothing to do with intelligence (he laughs). Moreover, you have to know how to play from bidding. Here comes the bridge game that helps you a lot. If you don’t know how to do this, you don’t stand a chance. Don’t expect to be playing with two Aces and two Kings, ‘cause this are cards which you usually lose with. (laughs) Not even in one tour that I won did I had two Aces or two Kings. I’m afraid of these cards. You engage the chips and all I was saying about craps happens. These are not cards that bring you prizes in tours.

But you don’t feel like throwing them away, either…

That’t where the intervention takes place. An interesting thing happened to my while in Zagreb. The first day I role extremely well, reach up to about 70 thousand chips and there’s this very excited boy coming, with a pile of chips. However, he didn’t knew a thing about gambling. An old player smells the opportunity: here’s a win coming. I saw how many chips there were and I didn’t take my eyes off them. I started teasing him. I bluffed, showed it to him and provoked him. I tested the waters. I have two Queens, he has two Four cards, he raises, I raise too, but just a little, only to tease him. He’s full of adrenalin, I see him flop: 3-5-9. He continues firmly, I do the same, an easy tribet. That was the moment when his eyes lightened. What did I want the most? I wanted his chips and I was close, I had with 20 thousand chips more than he had. He reached all-in instantaneously. What could I possibly want more than leaving with 150 thousand chips when the others had about 30 thousand. It was a final table for me. The last two cards are showed: 6-7, so quint. There were two perfect cards. What is the probability of this happening? You cand play nine hours without interruption and with no chance of getting to the pot, there are moments like these. As I was saying, I started with 15 thousands and reached almost 80 thousand chips, so I rolled well. Then I end up with 20 thousands and the next hand I have an Ace, a Queen of spades, he raises, I call, he opens fire, 10 of spades and I’m down. All-in, he had two Aces. He didn’t put anything in and I was done with Zagreb, made my luggage. Afterwards, I ‘ve played another game and recovered my money and a little more on cash. I was on plus when leaving Zagreb and that was the whole point. It gives you another state of mind.

Bankroll management, isn’t it?

It’s the most important. If you haven’t won, there’s no problem, the point is to not lose or how much you lose. That’s all, poker doesn’t involve sophistry, but discipline. If you plan on falling in love with this sport, you should know it’s on money. If you want to have a family, you must show respect and think about whether you can play or not. It’s best not to play if you take the family’s money. You do your thing betting on your family’s balance, and family is everything.

Which was the most interesting tour you participated in?

They are all interesting

Aren’t you fond of one especially?

They’re all beautiful and they all teach you something. The hardest one I believe it was the last game, in Vienna. It was the most difficult one and I got out of it easily because I took a risk. I finished with A-J to A-2 but I reached there without having a single card. Think about me having to work three days to get there and taking a risk I couldn’t avoid. I could have played from bidding and make it to the final table.

Poker is a phenomenon that developed much in our country in the last year. What do you think about that?

It frightens me.

Now there are tours organised once every two months in Romania…

It scares me. Why am I saying this? Because I see many young people who have no grounds, no support. Casino life is very tempting, expecially for teenagers, but for the older ones as well. But what support do they have? That’s the problem, their drive.

So the idea of responsible game is not a simple story, you really must take care.

It’s your life and your family’s life, you influence their life. What safety do you promise them? You leave home with some money and if you take it for gambling, there’s a good chance you lose it. It’s very likey for these things to happen.

Is poker a sport or game based on luck? We’re talking about Texas Hold’em, because here’s the trend with the mind game. How do things stand?

It’s not sport, it’s tough life. I see it in these children, it’s tough life. It involves much hope, excitement and energy. It’s different when you’re relaxed, detached.

It’s better to see it as a hobby, passion, fit the budget…

Exactly. I’m not hiding. I’ve never lied to my family because you have to keep track of all the lies.

This is typical of players.

When I’m angry, you see it from my entering the room. This is how thing are, there’s no secret. It’s very natural.

What do you think of the people having players from abroad as role models? We have an obiedient attitude towards strangers. Players such as Negreanu or Moneymaker told us the same thing.

I have’t read one book about Negreanu or Moneymaker. I’m not interested in this. I’ve told you about myself, about my life. I’m a player that was born here, lived here and have been playing here for as long as I can remember. I learned to play first, then to walk.

Are you into other games, except poker?

No, not a single one. I don’t get them, I’m not good at them, I have nothing to do with them. I haven’t played craps, nor Backjack, I’m parallelled with them. However, I like competition. I even play poker with myself, it doesn’t matter if there is only one or five at the table, I sit and wait for three more to come.

A piece of advice for young players who try to catch up with you?

Not really. I am the one who has to learn from them. I like them, even as playing style.

What Romanian player do you find to be the best?

They are all good players. And it’s a very tough job. To play from six tables up is very hard, I have all the respect in the world for them from this point of view. What do you have to do to convince a young man to work 10-12 hours at this rate? Such an involvement it’s fantastic, it’s hard, it’s beyond me. They must be respected. No matter if it’s on plus or not, it deserves appreciation. Every hard work deserved to be appreciated as long as there’s no stealing or cheating involved. They have my respect.

• Winner of many tours, expecially locally, Ștefan Ciucă gave a memorable performance in Queen Poker Tour that took place in August, last year, where he received the first prize.
• Though he doesn’t see it as a record, “The Grandfather” Ciucă ranked second place  in Romanian Poker Championship in 2010.
• Participant in the Eureka Poker Tour Bulgaria, Ciucă was the fifth player at the final table, with a prize of € 12 000.
• In the Eureka Croatia Tour, held in Zagreb in August 2011, Ștefan Ciucă ranked the sixth.

 Pokerul presupune educație și menținerea unui echilibru, iar cea mai importantă carte pe care o poți juca este răbdarea. Pentru tânăra generație de jucători, esențiale sunt disciplina și formarea.  Mai multe aflați în interviul acordat de cel supranumit „bunicul”, unul dintre veteranii jocului de poker din România, Ștefan Ciucă.

Cum ai inceput să joci poker?

Joc poker de când mă știu. Fac parte din categoria jucătorilor cei mai bătrâni. Am jucat poker cu 5 cărți, pe timpul lui Ceaușescu. Unii dintre noi veneau de la jocul cu 5 cărți, iar alții jucaseră bridge anterior, sunt mulți foști jucători de bridge.

Și ai trecut pe zona de Texas Holdʹem, ce joacă tineretul în general…

Da, am trecut pe Texas Holdʹem. Trebuie să ținem pasul, să fim alături de ei. Și noi ne considerăm încă tineri, nu-i așa? Nu e o mândrie să spun că sunt unul dintre jucătorii cei mai bătrâni, dar ca vechime în jocul de poker, sunt unul dintre veterani.

Când joci Texas Holdʹem preferi turneu sau cash game?

Joc și una și alta, cu aceeași plăcere.

Când ai început să joci cash cu 5 cărți, ce te-a atras? Cum a început totul?

Eu vin din lumea sportului, aici e explicația. Am făcut box de performanță. Și în cantonamente nu jucam șotron, ci orice joc pe bani. Aveam un coș din plastic în care aruncam ghemotoace de hârtie din poziție orizontală, fără să ridicăm capul de pe pernă. Jucam pe 100 lei, 10 lei în banii actuali. Totul se făcea cu arbitru, era o comisie întreagă. Așa se întâmplă lucrurile între sportivi, dacă nu făceam jocuri, recurgeam la alte lucruri.

În special în cantonamentele lungi, de două sau trei săptămâni.

Da, stăteam foarte mult în cantonamente și făceam recuperări, inclusiv iarna.

Disciplina și răbdarea din cantonamente sunt atuuri care te ajută și în jocul de poker?

Totul ține de educație. Un jucător de poker are și familie. Trebuie să-ți respecți familia, să-i oferi siguranță. Fiul meu are 28 de ani, a terminat două masterate, lucrează în Corpul de Control al Primului Ministru, nu are nicio legătură cu jocurile de noroc sau cu cazinourile. Însă, dacă eu eram un om care să-i inspire nesiguranță sau probleme în familie, nu știu dacă reușea să facă facultatea, masteratele, să se ocupe de studii. Ar fi fost mai dificil. Eu nu m-am ferit niciodată de prieteni, de mama sau de soție când mergeam să joc poker. Niciodată nu m-am ascuns. Toată lumea știe că asta e pasiunea mea, dar nici n-am amestecat jocurile cu banii familiei sau cu banii de business. Jocurile de noroc, pentru mine, trebuie să se întrețină singure. Dacă nu se întrețin singure și încep să aduc bani de acasă, înseamnă că e ceva în neregulă. Pentru asta îți trebuie disciplină, mai ales în jocurile de noroc. În lipsa disciplinei, apar cămătarii care reprezintă primul pas în distrugerea unui jucător. Ceea ce vă spun e valabil pentru orice tânăr din ziua de azi, care pleacă pe drumul acesta și este dezorientat. Eu unul sunt coleric, explodez. Sunt un ofticos, nu știu să pierd, n-o să învăț niciodată să pierd; este singurul lucru pe care nu am să-l accept vreodată: să învăț să pierd. Nici nu-mi trece prin cap, e ilogic. Investesc energie și tot ce am mai bun ca să câștig. Ar fi culmea să accept să fiu un pierzător.

E o filosofie bună de viață.

Tot ce faci în viață e o luptă, iar tot ceea ce ai, obții prin muncă. Te frămânți, te agiți, te preocupi să faci ceva. Să faci o casă, să pui un pom, să faci un copil, toate astea necesită efort. Nu pot să accept să pierd, se întâmplă și asta, dar nu înseamnă să încep să mă obișnuiesc cu așa ceva.

Ai câștigat din prima la poker?

Nu se poate să câștigi din prima la poker. E ca și cum ai face box și n-ai lua pumni în cap. În box, întâi înveți să primești pumni, apoi începi să dai și tu. Așa e și în poker.

Adică e nevoie de timp să te formezi ca jucător? Sunt mulți tineri, noi în branșă, care consideră că banii se câștigă ușor în poker. Este adevărat?

E foarte greu să te menții în poker, poate mai greu decât în oricare alt domeniu. Foarte puțini reușesc să se mențină. Ăștia trecători, care fac fițe sunt azi, dispar, apoi reapar peste 10 ani. A te menține în poker e foarte greu, din punctul meu de vedere, pentru că orice jucător are urcușuri și coborâșuri. Sunt perioade când poți să joci foarte corect, dar pierzi orice ai face, ca și-n viață. Sunt perioade când poți să pierzi și la două cărți, e ilogic, dar se poate. Se întâmplă să pierzi și la o carte, cu niște poturi amețitoare. Cine spune că el e buricul satului în poker nu știe ce vorbește. Orice jucător are și perioade când rulează foarte bine, îi merge totul ca și cum i se cuvine, dar are și perioade când nu se lipește nimic de el. Sunt unii jucători mai norocoși, alții mai ghinioniști, dar întotdeauna trebuie să ai acea cultură ca să pleci în față, să te depărtezi cât mai mult de barbut. Și, cu experiența pe care o capeți, e normal ca jocul tău să devină mai echilibrat. Practic, începi să refuzi barbutul. Chiar dacă ai ghinion, dar trebuie să joci corect.

Ce înseamnă să joci corect?

A-ți calcula întotdeauna șansele să pleci în față. Asta înseamnă, după mine, a te duce spre corect. E spectaculos când auzi scoruri de 5-2 sau 6-3, da, a câștigat, dar fă calculul; probabilistic, ce înseamnă asta? A lovit o dată, nu?

Ideea e să depinzi din ce în ce mai puțin de noroc, așa este?

Bineînțeles.

Când intervine norocul în jocul de poker?

Norocul există, nu poți să-l elimini din calcul. Altfel, nu s-ar mai numi joc de noroc. Tu ai obligația să nu-ți forțezi norocul, ci să joci corect. Din punctul meu de vedere, eu am noroc dacă nu pierd la o carte, la două cărți, la cinci, adică să nu mă tragă din pachet, să văd stele verzi. Asta înseamnă pentru mine noroc. Dacă nu mă strâmbă, înseamnă că e O.K.

Înseamnă că ai jucat corect cartea.

Exact, asta înseamnă.

Cât e joc de inteligență până la urmă? E 80%-90% și aproximativ 10% norocul, sau nu contează procentajul?

Eu nu mă joc cu asemenea procente, nu are legătură cu treaba asta. Procentele sunt la cărți. Dacă știi să-ți calculezi șansele corect, e O.K., dacă nu…

Ai câștigat multe turnee pe cash…

Da, am câștigat multe turnee, mai ales în țară.

Cum faci?

Cu multă răbdare. Răbdarea este cartea cea mai puternică. E vorba de educație. Foldezi până te doare mâna. Nu e inteligență la mijloc.(râde) Și, în plus de asta, trebuie să știi să joci și din licitații. Aici intervine jocul de bridge, care te ajută foarte mult. Dacă nu știi să joci din licitații, n-ai nicio șansă. Nu te aștepta că o să joci cu doi ași și doi popi, că astea sunt cărți cu care de regulă pierzi. (râde) În niciunul dintre turneele pe care le-am câștigat, nu am avut nici doi ași, nici doi popi. Mi-e și frică de cărțile astea. Angajezi fisele și se întâmplă exact ce spuneam despre barbut. Nu se iau turnee cu cărți de genul acesta.

Dar parcă nici nu poți să le arunci…

Tocmai, acolo intervin. La Zagreb mi s-a întâmplat o chestie foarte frumoasă. În prima zi rulez extraordinar de bine, ajung la vreo 70 de mii de fise și vine un băiat, dominat total de emoție, dar cu o grămadă de fise. Totuși, habar n-avea de joc. Un jucător bătrân simte imediat și știe: aici e de mâncat o pâine. Am văzut câte fise are și eram cu ochii pe ele. Am început să-l șicanez. I-am dat o cacealma, i-am arătat-o, l-am provocat. Deci, mi-am pregătit terenul. Am două dame, el are doi pătrari, el dă raise, eu dau re-raise, dar ușor, să-l întărât numai. El e plin de adrenalină, îl văd că începe să intre în rol se deschide un flop: 3-5-9. El cere puternic, eu la fel, un tribet ușor. În momentul acela deja i s-au aprins ochii în cap. Ce-mi doream în momentul acela? Îi voiam fisele, eram aproape, aveam vreo 20 de mii de fise peste el. Omul a intrat all-in instantaneu. Ce puteam să vreau mai mult decât să plec în prima zi cu 150 de mii de fise, când toți aveau în jur de 30 de mii. Era masă finală pentru mine. Se deschid ultimele două cărți: 6-7, deci chintă. Două cărți perfecte i-a pus. Care e probabilitatea să se întâmple asta? Poți să joci și nouă ore și să nu te apropii de pot, sunt momente din astea. Legat de ce spuneam, am pornit la drum cu 15 mii și ajunsesem la aproape 80 de mii de fise, deci am rulat foarte bine. Apoi, reușesc să mă strâmb, rămân cu 20 de mii și următoarea mână am as, damă de pică, mărește unul, îi dau un call, deschide focul, 10 de pică, 9 de pică și eu varză. All-in, el avea doi ași. N-a pus nimic și am terminat cu Zagreb, mi-am făcut bagajul. Pe urmă, am jucat unul de-ăla mic și mi-am scos banii, apoi ceva și la cash. M-am întors pe plus de la Zagreb și asta e și ideea. Îți dă altă stare.

Managementul bankroll-ului, nu-i așa?

E cel mai important. Dacă n-ai câștigat, nu e nicio problemă, ideea e să nu pierzi sau cât pierzi. Asta e tot, pokerul nu implică sofisme, ci disciplină. Dacă ai de gând să de îndrăgostești de sportul ăsta, trebuie să știi că e pe bani. Dacă îți dorești și o familie, trebuie să dai dovadă de respect, să te gândești dacă poți să joci. Mai bine nu te apropii de el, decât să iei din banii familiei ca să joci. Îți faci mendrele mizând echilibrul familiei, iar familia e totul.

Care a fost cel mai interesant turneu la care ai participat?

Toate sunt interesante.

La inimă nu ți-a rămas niciunul?

Toate sunt frumoase și din toate ai câte ceva de învățat. Cel mai greu mi s-a părut ultimul, de la Viena. Cel mai dificil și am ieșit cel mai ușor, pentru că mi-am asumat un risc. Am ieșit A-J la A-2, dar am ajuns acolo fără să am nicio carte. Gândește-te să muncesc trei zile și să ajung acolo, să-mi asum un risc pe care puteam să-l evit. Puteam să joc tot din licitație și rezistam, mă duceam la masa finală.

Pokerul este un fenomen care a luat amploare foarte mult la noi, in ultimul an. Ce părere ai despre asta?

Pe mine asta mă sperie.

Acum se organizează turnee la două luni, în România…

Mă îngrozește așa ceva. De ce spun asta? Pentru că văd mulți tineri care nu au nicio fundație, nu au o bază, nu au o susținere. E tentantă viața de cazino, mai ales pentru cei tineri, dar și pentru cei mai în vârstă. Dar ce au în spate? Aici e problema, pornirea lor.

Deci ideea de joc responsabil nu e o simplă poveste, chiar trebuie să ai grijă.

E viața ta, și a familiei, le influențezi viața. Ce siguranță le oferi? Pleci de acasă cu niște bani și, dacă i-ai luat pentru joc, poți să-i și pierzi. E chiar mai probabil să-i pierzi.

Pokerul e sport sau joc de noroc? Vorbim de Texas Holdʹem, pentru că acum e trendul ăsta cu sportul minții. Cum stau lucrurile?

Nu e sport, e viață grea. Eu văd la tinerii aștia, e viață grea. Angajează multă speranță, multă emoție și energie. E altceva când ești relaxat, detașat.

Mai bine lași totul la nivelul de joc, de hobby, de pasiune, te încadrezi în buget…

Exact. Eu nu mă ascund. Nu m-am dus vreodată să mint acasă, pentru că trebuie să ții minte minciunile.

Asta e tipic sportivilor.

Când am nervi, mă vezi de la intrare. Cam asta e, nu e niciun secret. E așa de normal și de firesc!

Ce crezi despre faptul că mulți iau ca modele oameni de afară? Avem o atitudine obedientă față de străini. Jucători ca Negreanu sau Moneymaker ne-au spus același lucru.

Eu n-am citit nicio carte nici despre Negreanu, nici despre Moneymaker. Nu mă interesează, v-am povestit despre mine, despre viața mea. Sunt un jucător care a trăit și a crescut aici și am jucat de când mă știu. Am învățat întâi să joc și apoi să merg.

În afară de poker, practici și alte jocuri de noroc?

Nu, niciun joc de noroc. Nu le înțeleg, nu mă pricep, n-am nicio legătură. N-am jucat barbut, n-am jucat Blackjack, sunt paralel. Însă îmi place competiția. Pokerul îl joc și eu cu mine, nu contează că e unul singur, că sunt cinci, nu mă așez la masă așteptând să mai vină încă trei.

Un sfat pentru jucătorii tineri care vin din urmă?

Nu, eu am de învățat de la ei. Mie îmi sunt dragi, chiar îmi plac și ca stil de joc.

Care vi se pare mai bun dintre jucătorii noștri?

Toți sunt buni. Și e o muncă extraordinar de grea. Să joci de la șase mese în sus e foarte greu, din punctul acesta de vedere am tot respectul. Ce ar trebui să faci ca să convingi un tânăr să muncească 10-20 ore la nivelul acela? Un asemenea angajament e fantastic, e greu, pe mine mă depașește. Trebuie respectați. N-are importanță dacă e cu plus sau cu minus, e de apreciat. Orice muncă merită apreciere atât timp cât nu se fură, nu se înșală. Am tot respectul pentru ei.

• Câștigător a numeroase turnee, în special în țară, Ștefan Ciucă a reușit o performanță memorabilă la Queen Poker Tour care a avut loc în august, anul trecut, unde și-a adjudecat locul întâi.
• Deși nu îl consideră un rezultat de palmares, ”bunicul” Ciucă a reușit să obțină o poziție secundă la Campionatul Român de Poker din 2010.
• Participant la turneul de mare amploare ”Eureka Poker Tour Bulgaria”, Ciucă s-a clasat pe locul al cincilea la masa finală, cu un câștig de 12.000 euro.
• În turneul Eureka Croația, care s-a desfășurat la Zagreb în august 2011, Ștefan Ciucă a obținut locul șase.
