Sic bo is a casino game which is very popular in Asia and widely played in casinos in Macau, where is known as dai siu, its Chinese name. Another name for Sic bo is Tai Sai (lucky dice), as it is a game of ancient Chinese origin. Sic bo means “precious dice”, while Dai Siu means “Big Small”. It can be described as an unequal game of chance and it is played with three dice. It has two variants: Grand hazard and Chuck-a-luck, both of English origin.
The story of the game
The game was introduced by Chinese immigrants in the USA in the 20th century, and is now played in most American casinos. It was illegal to play, but since 13 May 2002 it can be played legally in licensed casinos in the United Kingdom under The Gaming Clubs Regulations. Game play involves that a certain condition (for example that all three dice will roll the same) will be satisfied by a roll of dice.
Unlike Sic bo, its variant, Grand hazard is a gambling game of English origin and it is also played with three dice. This game is distinct from Hazard, another gambling game of Old English origin, but played with only two dice. Grand hazard also has a variant that originated from it: Chuck-a-luck, also known as birdcage. It is named this way because the three dice are kept in a device that resembles a wire-frame bird cage and that pivots about its centre. The dealer rotates tha cage end over end, with the dice landing on the bottom. The odds for all the dice showing the same number are 30 to 1. Now this game is very rare, because it has been replaced by Sic bo tables.
Description of Sic bo
The game uses three dice and a table with a variety of betting options on the roll of the dice. The odds and table layout also vary from place to place. The payoffs are the same across Atlantic City and Macau, but different from each other. This rule does not apply for Las Vegas and online casinos.
Official rules:
For a double game, when the player bets on a specific pair (e.g. two 1’s), when he wins if at least two of the chosen numbers appear. The pays are: 8 to 1 in Macau, 10 to 1 in Atlantic City and 11 to 1 in Australia. For a triple game the player may bet on any specific trips (e.g. three 1’s). Player wins if all three dice match the number chosen. Pays are as follows: 150 to 1 in Macau and 180 to 1 in Atlantic City. An interesting to know is that the combinations that are most likely to come up pay out less than the unlikely combinations, but the unlikely ones pay big.
There is also the “any triple” situation, when any three of a kind wins. Pays: 24 to 1 in Macau and 30 to 1 in Atlantic City. The player has also the option of “any one number”, when he can bet on any specific number from 1 to 6. Probability of 1 match is 34.72%, 2 matches is 6.94% and 3 matches is 0.46%.
In Macau, the player can choose a three-number combination, using two unique numbers and specifying which will be rolled twice. For example 2-2-5. The bet pays 50 to 1 if the roll matches exactly. In this example, 2-5-5 and 2-5-4 would lose. In this case, the winning probability is only 1.39%.
Colors pictures instead of numbers
There are casinos in Macau, about 20% of them, that use dice with pictures instead of numbers for the Sic bo tables. The name of this game is “Yee Hah Hi”, according to the Ultimate Casino Guide. Each picture has an associated number, for example 1=red, 2=green . In addition to the usual bets, there are some based on the colors of the symbols (e.g Fish=red=1 and so on).
How to play
To play Sic bo, you place your chips on the table layout directly on the numbers and/or combination of numbers you have chosen. Each player is responsible for the positioning of their chips. After the dealer calls “No More Bets” they will shake the dice that are sealed in a shaker , uncover the dice and enter the results into the electronic layout. All winning combinations will be illuminated.

Istoria jocului

Grand hazard este un joc care, spre deosebire de Sic bo, are origine engleză, dar se joacă tot cu trei zaruri. Acesta diferă de Hazard, tot un joc vechi englezesc pentru care se folosesc doar două zaruri. Grand hazard are și o altă variantă, Chuck-a-luck, cunoscută și sub denumirea de colivie. Numele se datorează faptului că cele trei zaruri sunt ținute într-un dispozitiv ce seamănă cu o colivie din sârmă care pivotează în jurul său. Dealerul rotește colivia, în final zarurile oprindu-se în partea de jos a acesteia. Șansele ca toate zarurile să arate același număr este de 30 la 1. În prezent, acest joc este foarte rar întâlnit întrucât a fost înlocuit de Sic bo.
Descrierea jocului Sic bo
Jocul necesită trei zaruri și un layout în funcție de care jucătorii pot face pariurile, dar care diferă de la o regiune la alta. Câștigurile sunt la fel în Atlantic City și Macau, însă diferă între ele. Regulile nu se aplică în Las Vegas și nici în cazinourile online.
Reguli oficiale
În cazul unui joc dublu, participantul care pariază pe o anumită pereche (doi de 1) câștigă dacă numărul apare pe cel puțin două dintre zaruri. Sumele care pot fi plătite sunt de 8 la 1 în Macau, 10 la 1 în Atlantic City și 11 la 1 în Australia. Pentru un joc triplu se pariază pe un număr care trebuie să apară pe toate cele trei zaruri. Sumele plătite sunt de 150 la 1 în Macau și de 180 la 1 în Atlantic City. Interesant de știut este faptul că, cele mai probabile combinații care pot apărea se plătesc mai puțin decât combinațiile cu șansă mai mică pentru care se plătește foarte mult.
Există și situația de câștig ,,oricare trei” în care apare același număr pe toate cele trei zaruri, caz în care se plătește 24 la 1 în Macau și 30 la 1 în Atlantic City. Un alt caz este cel în care jucătorul pariază pe un număr de la 1 la 6. Probabilitatea ca numărul respectiv să apară o dată este de 34,72%, de 2 ori este de 6,94%, iar de trei ori este de 0,46%.
În Macau, jucătorul poate alege o combinație de trei cifre folosind 2 cifre unice și specificând care zaruri vor fi aruncate de două ori. De exemplu 2-2-5. Se platește 50 la 1 dacă zarurile arată exact această combinație. În acest exemplu, 2-5-5 și 2-5-4 sunt combinații necâștigătoare, iar probabilitatea de câștig este de 1.39%.
Imagini în loc de numere
