The juncture of gambling and tribes seems, at a first sight, at least antagonistic. The reality found in the middle of a reservation inhabited by American Indians in the north-American state of Connecticut proves that the two terms are, in fact, congruent: the area hosts a few luxurious gambling resorts that turned into a real gold mine for the people in the area and a hidden treasure for tourists. This has been facilitated by an authority called The Mohegan Tribal Gaming.
The Indian tribe in Connecticut, known as The Mohegan Indian Tribe in Connecticut or “The Tribe”, recognized at the federal level, covers a reservation of around 200 ha in the south-east of the Connecticut state. The authority has decision power regarding the overseeing and regulation of gaming activities on the reservation belonging to the Tribe. Among the facilities regulated and owned by this authority we can name the Mohegan Sun complex, the most renowned in the region, covering 74 ha. Another gambling facility under the control of The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority is Mohegan Sun Pocono, an entertainment and gambling facility that offers slot machines and track races, all built on a surface of 160 ha in Pennsylvania. On top of that, the Authority also owns a few betting facilities in the same state.
New England – the paradise of tribal gaming
Mohegan Sun, the famous gaming complex in the Indian tribe from the north part of the United States is one of the two legally authorized facilities that offer slot machines and table games. The complex is located in the region known as New England, encompassing the state Connecticut.
The complex covers no less than 3.1 million in square meters and includes the following casinos: Casino of the Earth, Casino of the Sky, Casino of the Wing, a cabaret theater, a retail space and a luxurious hotel with 1.200 rooms and 34 storeys – Sky Hotel Tower. One of the mentioned casinos, respectively Casino of the Earth, has 3.400 slot machines, 180 table games, including blackjack, roulette and craps. Another facility in Mohegan Sun is Sunrise Square, an area dedicated to Asian gambling, in which there are 50 table games. The other facility, Mohegan Sun Pocono, has 2.500 slot machines and electronic table games, a few restaurants, a casual buffet with 300 seats, six retail points and bars.
These facilities can be described as gold mines for the ones in the region, given the fact that these facilities are unique in the world and their surroundings are truly spectacular, moreover for gambling lovers, which are by definition fond of novelties and sensationalist places, but also of adrenaline. Earnings made by these spots indeed show that visitors are eager to try new things – the main attraction point of the region – Mohegan Sun, earns tens of millions of dollars every year.
Ambitious plans: international expansion
The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority has plans to develop a casino in South Korea, in what is to become the first international gambling spot of the American Tribe. The deal shows that this project would imply collaboration with a famous company in Las Vegas, Miura Holdings, to build on a surface of 320 ha owned by the biggest airport in South Korea, Incheon International Airport Corp. Apart from wanting to compensate for the recent decay of the well-known semiautonomous hub in the Chinese gambling, Macau, the project will also stand for a way to promote the history and culture of the Mohegan tribe.
This is not the first project that Mohegan Sun develops outside the region of New England: the owner of the complex has also invested in casinos in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and plans to open a casino in Washington. Moreover, he also plans to open three casinos in Massachusetts in 2017, which could lead to a drop in incomes generated by gambling in Connecticut of no less than $63.5 million in 2018.
This mammoth of gambling and entertainment owned by the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority is one of the most spectacular entertainment, gaming and shopping destinations in the United States. Apart from the already mentioned casinos and facilities, gamblers can relax in a luxurious spa and play golf, the sport of the noblemen. On top of that, the Mohegan Sun complex is very close to New York, Boston, Hartford and Providence and only 15 minutes away from the museums and antiquity shops in Mystic County – the famous village in Connecticut. Consequently, this gambling destination should not be missed by gamblers who entered the big casinos of the world and neither by the ones who barely initiate themselves in gambling.

Realitatea din mijlocul unor rezervații ale indienilor americani din statul nord-american Connecticut ne arată însă că cei doi termeni sunt cât se poate de congruenți: zona găzduiește câteva resorturi luxoase de gambling care au devenit o adevărată mină de aur pentru oamenii din zonă și o comoară ascunsă pentru turiști. Acest lucru este posibil prin existența unei autorități numite The Mohegan Tribal Gaming.
Tribul indian din Connecticut, cunoscut ca Tribul Mohegan al Indienilor din Connecticut sau “Tribul”, este recunoscut la nivel federal și dispune de o rezervație de circa 200 hectare în sud-estul statului Connecticut. Autoritatea a fost învestită cu putere de decizie în ceea ce privește conducerea și reglementarea activităților de tipul jocurilor de noroc pe suprafața rezervației care aparține Tribului. Noua Anglie – paradisul gamingului tribal
Mohegan Sun, celebrul complex de gaming din zona tribului indian din partea nordică a Statelor Unite este una dintre cele două facilități legal autorizate în zonă care oferă slot machines și mese de jocuri. Complexul este situat în regiunea numită Noua Anglie, care cuprinde și statul Connecticut.
Complexul ocupă nu mai puțin de 3,1 milioane m2 și include următoarele cazinouri: Casino of the Earth, Casino of the Sky, Casino of the Wind, un teatru de cabaret, un spațiu de retail, dar și un hotel luxos cu 1.200 de camera și 34 de etaje – Sky Hotel Tower. Aceste facilități sunt adevărate mine de aur pentru cei din regiune, având în vedere că facilitățile sunt unice în lume, cadrul în care sunt amplasate fiind unul spectaculos, cu atât mai mult pentru jucătorii de gambling, aceștia fiind prin definiție iubitori de nou și senzațional, dar și de adrenalină. Încasările făcute de acestea arată că vizitatori sunt, într-adevăr, dornici să experimenteze – punctul principal de atracție al regiunii, Mohegan Sun, are încasări de zeci de milioane de dolari pe an.
Planuri ambițioase: extindere internațională
Autoritatea Mohegan Tribal Gaming are planuri de a dezvolta un cazinou în Coreea de Sud, ceea ce ar reprezenta prima apariție internațională aTribului American. În afară de faptul că proiectul își propune să compenseze recenta decădere a celebrului hub semi-autonom al gamblingului chinez, Macao, acesta ar reprezenta și o modalitate de a promova istoria și cultura tribului Mohegan.
Acesta nu este însă primul proiect Mohegan Sun dezvoltat în afara zonei numite Noua Anglie: cel care deține complexul a mai dezvoltat cazinouri în Pensylvania, New Jersey și are în plan deschiderea unui cazinou în Washington. În plus, acesta are în plan și deschiderea a trei cazinouri în Massachusetts în 2017, planuri care dacă s-ar concretiza, ar duce la scăderea veniturilor din gambling ale statului Connecticut cu 63.5 milioane de dolari în anul 2018.
Mamutul dedicat gamblingului și entertainmentului pe care în deține Autoritatea Mohegan Tribal Gaming este una dintre cele mai mari și spectaculoase destinații de entertainment, gaming și shopping din Statele Unite. Pe lângă cazinouri și facilitățile deja amintite, gamblerii se pot relaxa într-un spa luxos și pot juca golf, sportul nobililor. Mai mult, complexul Mohegan Sun este foarte aproape de New York, Boston, Hartford și Providence și se află la doar 15 minute de muzeele și magazinele de antichități din Mystic County – celebrul orășel din Connecticut. Prin urmare, această destinație de gambling nu trebuie ratată de niciun jucător care a ajuns să joace în marile cazinouri ale lumii, dar nici de cei care abia se inițiază în tainele domeniului.
