If you were to make a poll with the competitions that bettors are playing the most, then surely that the Champions League will be among the first options! The spectacle of the world’s most watched competition returns: on February 17th, the matches of eliminatory phases of the competition will resume, but we will not find out all of the teams qualified for the quarter-finals until March 17th! Until then we can make a few predictions.
Certainties or surprises?
If we go with the Favorites, we can indicate at least seven teams that will play in the quarterfinals. If we consider the odds, the League proposes only one „balanced” match for the eights: Juventus-Borussia Dortmund. Meaning a team that marches the Championship and occupies the first place in Italy vs. a club that found itself in a retrograde position (16th place in the Bundesliga) and which lost his glow two years ago. This pale glow, but also the good run in the League’s groups have placed it above Dortmund in the opinion of the bookmakers. The German group won its group and it placed above Arsenal, while Italians have qualified from the second place, yielding the first-place to Atletico Madrid. Juventus starts with a small advantage and is given an odd of 1,80 to the qualification and Borussia’s is very close: 2.00
Beside this double, all the other matches seem unbalanced if we look at the odds. However, the match between PSG and Chelsea is more balanced than it seems. Londoners enjoy an 1,44 odd for qualifying, while the French are credited with 2,75. The matches will be very hot and will probably finish with victories on the edge or perhaps even a draw. PSG was greatly strengthened during the last years and even a regular defender from its opponent in the League was transferred here, namely David Luiz. If we were to look for a surprise, then surely, PSG would be most likely to mark it.
In the duel of the odds, Mircea Lucescu and the talented football players of his lot do not really seem to be helping. Sahtior has 8.00 odd to pass Bayern Munchen, while the Germans odd is minuscule: 1,08. The odd is shared by Real Madrid if it passes Schalke 04, but this match is indeed very unbalanced. However, the Germans have a a little bit smaller qualification odd than at Sahtior: 7,00.
Manchester City’s is the eternal might-have-been of the League. Despite a strong lot that could easily win the most coveted competition between clubs, „the citizens” have the misfortune to always face powerful opponents. This is also happening in the eights: it will duel with Barcelona. The Catalans are favorites: 1,36, while the former team of Costel Pantilimon Carter has an odd of 3,10 for an eventual qualification.
Porto starts with the best chance in the double with Basel (1,44 to 2,75), while the predictions for Atletico Madrid includes again a good run, since in the last season the team made it to the final. Diego Simeone’s team has a 1,33 odd to be among the last eight teams remaining in the competition, while its opponent Bayer Leverkusen a 3,25 odd. Left by the stars Falcao and James Rodriguez, AS Monaco, however, managed to qualify for the last 16, but stands little chance in front of Arsenal. The Gunners have 1,36, while French have 3,10 odd.
The great favorites: the last two winners
In addition to the results, the value of the lot, transfers and other criteria, one other rule that guides the bookmakers when establishing the favorites in a competition, is that the team to have won the tournament in previous years. This rule applies also in the Champions League. The last two winners are the top two favorites: all the bookmakers go with either Bayern Munchen or Real Madrid. At Bet365.com, Germans have a 3,50 odd and the Galactics 3,75. The third favorite, with an almost double odd, is Barcelona: 6,50! In odds’ order, the trophy might also go to: Chelsea (8,00); Manchester City (15,00), Atletico Madrid (17,00) and Arsenal (19,00). Mircea Lucescu’s Sahtior receives the lowest odds: 501,00 for an eventual success.
The English bet on Chelsea
Although they have the strongest championship in the world, the teams from the Premier League fail to take advantage of this and to dominate in the Champions League as well. In the past 10 years, England has won three Leagues, with Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea and has qualified to the final five times. However, the bookmakers don’t give the British clubs too many odds to a new trophy. Bet.365 proposed a bet on the number of teams that will be present in the final of the Champions League, and the „no team” variant has the smallest odd: 1,50. Instead, if one team will arrive in the last act, the odd increases to 2,50. If the Premier League manages to prove its supremacy in the League too and will have two clubs in the final, then the bettors will get back 41 times the amount invested!
Out of the three teams remaining in the competition, Chelsea is favorite to go further, even if it has a difficult match in the last 16. Jose Mourinho’s team is credited with 1,72 to not to be eliminated before Arsenal and Manchester City. For the same performance, the Gunners received 2,87, while City 6,00! With regard to the number of teams that will reach the quarter-finals, bookmakers are of the opinion that at least one of the teams will overturn during the first elimination phase. Two teams of the last eight are provided with 2,10 odds, and one team with 2,62. The less likely options are: all three to qualify: 6,50 odd or all three to be eliminated: 12,00 odd.
Bet on Messi!
With eight goals scored in the groups, Lionel Messi is favorite to win the goal getter title of the League this season. Barcelona’s star is currently bettered only by Luiz Adriano, who has nine goals, but it is difficult to believe that the Sahtior striker will have the opportunity to score the same in the eliminating phases as well.
Instead, Messi and Adriano stand at great distance from the competition: there are six players with five goals behind them. Barcelona’s striker has the best odds at the bookmakers: 2,20 and he is followed by Ronaldo, one of the six players with five goals scored, with an odd of 4,00. Luiz Adriano is the third favorite, 4,50odd. Basically, the goal getter will apparently be chosen out of these three players, since odd related too, the other players are way back. The closest players are Karim Benzema (5 goals-odds 15,00), Mario Mandzukic (5 goals-34,00 odds) and Sergio Aguero (5 goals-41,00 odds)
The Clubs of Italy, Favorites in Europa League
While Spaniards and Germans are favorites to win the Champions League, the Italians start with the first chance in the second competition between clubs in Europe. As Roma and Napoli are the top rated teams to capture the trophy: 11,00 for the group in the capital and 13,00 for Napoli. The next favorites are Liverpool and Wolfsburg (odd 15,00). The former opponents of Steaua are not credited with too many chances: Dynamo Kyev 41,00, while Aalborg is last with 151,00 odd! The final will take place on May 27th at Narodowy stadium, Warsaw, Poland.

Dacă ar fi să facem un sondaj cu competițiile pe care pariorii joacă cel mai mult, atunci cu siguranță că Liga Campionilor va fi printre primele opțiuni! Spectacolul din cea mai urmărită competiție mondială revine: pe 17 februarie vor reîncepe meciurile din fazele eliminatorii, însă toate echipele calificate în sferturi le vom afla abia pe 17 martie! Până atunci putem face câteva previziuni.
Certitudini sau surprize?
Dacă am merge pe mâna favoritelor, putem indica din start cel puțin șapte echipe care vor evolua în sferturi. Din punctul de vedere al cotelor, Liga ne propune în optimi un singur meci ”echilibrat”: Juventus – Borussia Dortmund. Adică o echipă care defilează în campionat și ocupă locul 1 în Italia vs. un club aflat pe poziție retrogradabilă (locul 16 în Bundesliga) și care și-a pierdut strălucirea de acum doi ani. Tocmai această strălucire palidă, dar și parcursul bun din grupele Ligii au plasat-o pe Dortmund mai sus în ochii bookmakerilor. Gruparea germană a câștigat grupa din care a făcut parte și s-a plasat deasupra lui Arsenal, în timp ce italienii s-au calificat de pe locul doi, cedând primul loc lui Atletico Madrid. Juventus pornește cu un mic avantaj și are cota 1,80 la calificare, iar Borussia e foarte aproape: 2,00.
În afara acestei duble, toate celelalte meciuri par dezechilibrate dacă e să privim cotele. Cu toate acestea, un meci mai echilibrat decât pare este cel dintre PSG și Chelsea. Londonezii au cota 1,44 la calificare, în timp ce francezii sunt creditați cu 2,75. Meciurile vor fi foarte încinse și se vor încheia, probabil, cu victorii la limită sau poate chiar un egal. Englezii mizează pe Chelsea

În schimb, dacă o singură echipă va ajunge în ultimul act, cota crește la 2,50. Dacă Premier League reușește să își dovedească supremația și în Ligă și va avea două cluburi în finală, atunci pariorii vor primi de 41 de ori suma investită înapoi!

Cu opt goluri marcate în grupe, Lionel Messi e favorit să câștige titlul de golgeter în acest sezon al Ligii. Starul Barcelonei este depășit în acest moment doar de Luiz Adriano, care are nouă reușite, însă e dificil de crezut că atacantul lui Șahtior va avea ocazia să marcheze la fel de mult și în fazele eliminatorii.
În schimb, Messi și Adriano se află la mare distanță de concurență: în urma lor sunt șase jucători cu câte cinci goluri. Atacantul Barcelonei are cea mai bună cotă la casele de pariuri: 2,20 și e urmat de Ronaldo, unul din cei șase jucători cu cinci goluri marcate, cota 4.00.
