For instance, John Kutey won the $319 million jackpot in 2011 and, together with his wife, he chose to donate a part of the amount to the construction of an amusement park in memory of their parents. Another example of wise investment is Mrs. Louise White, aged 81, from Newport, Rhode Island, the happy winner of the prize of $336.4 million. Given the fact that buying the draw occurred after buying a ”lucky” sherbet from Stop n Shop, she decided to create”The Rainbow Sherbert Trust”.
The world of lottery winnings and its star
Perhaps for many people the name Ștefan Mandel does not represent anything. The accountant born in 1934 is however the most fascinating lottery player and winner of the world. At the age of only 30, he won for the first time at the lottery the amount of 78,783 lei. Being a mathematician helped him work constantly for improving certain mathematical formulae which helped him win the lottery again. Thus, by the use of the money that he initially won, he went to Australia where, in the end, he achieved to win $1,400,000. Mandel did not stop with these winnings; he also created the International Lotto Fund together with other 1745 people so that they could play the lottery for ”good money”. By the means of this syndicated playing system, Ștefan Mandel achieved to keep winning significant amounts of money. Given the fact that the Australian authorities changed the organizational system of the lottery twice in order to stop Mandel from winning, and they started to tease him with potential fraud trials, he chose to leave for the United States of America, where he won again in 1992 the amount of $ 27 million from Virginia State Lottery. Now he spends his old times on Vanuatu Islands.
Generally, the Romanian lottery winners did not have too generous a destiny due to spending the money impulsively and ending poor in a relatively short period of time.
When the lottery winning brings no luck
One of the at least curious aspects is the fact that a large number of lottery winners end penniless in approximately seven years. Moreover, there were numerous cases when the lottery players suffered unfortunate events afterwards. One of these cases is the one of Abraham Shakespeare who, after winning $30 million, was influenced by his girlfriend to transfer the goods to her. In 2009, Abraham was reported missing and in 2012, his girlfriend was sentenced for murder.
Another case at least as unfortunate was the case of Jeffrey Dampier, who, seven years after winning $20 million, was abducted and shot in the head by his former sister-in-law.
The delusion of winning the lottery is undoubtedly sublime for many of us. In some cases, purchasing the winning ticket gave meaning to some lives. It shaped the lives of some people in a positive manner, and these people managed to create a plentiful living for themselves for the rest of their lives. However, a large number of people signed their sentence to death by winning the lottery – be it regarded as a metaphor or proper sense. What can stand for a conclusion, coming from the extremely diverse experiences of the people who won the lottery, is the fact that luck must be handled deliberately and with precaution.

Câţi dintre noi nu au făcut la un moment dat un exerciţiu de imaginaţie în privinţa câştigării la loterie? Ce se întâmplă însă atunci când chiar ajungi să câştigi? Te ţii de planurile imaginate sau te apuci să cheltuieşti fără a mai ţine seama de nimic? Marii câştigători la loto atât din România cât şi din străinătate au avut abordări dintre cele mai diverse şi surprinzătoare.

Întrucât cumpărarea lozului câştigător s-a petrecut după cumpărarea unui şerbet “norocos” de la Stop n Shop, aceasta s-a hotărât să creeze „The Rainbow Sherbert Trust”.
Lumea câştigurilor la loto şi starul acesteia
Poate că pentru multă lume numele Ştefan Mandel nu reprezintă nimic. Contabilul născut în 1934 este însă cel mai fascinant jucător şi câştigător la loto al lumii. La vârsta de doar 30 de ani acesta a câștigat pentru prima dată la loterie 78.783 de lei. Matematician ca formație, acesta a lucrat în mod constant la perfecționarea unor formule matematice care să îl ajute în câștigarea din nou la loto.Astfel, cu ajutorul banilor câștigați inițial a plecat în Australia unde a reușit într-un final să câștige 1.400.000 de dolari. Mandel nu s-a limitat doar la aceste câștiguri, a înființat totodată International Lotto Fund împreună cu alte 1745 de persoane ca să poată juca pe ”bani serioși” la loto. Prin intermediul acestui sistem de joc sindicalizat Ștefan Mandel a reușit să câștige sume însemnate de bani în continuare. Întrucât în cele din urmă autoritățile australiene au schimbat sistemul de organizare al loteriei de două ori pentru a-l împiedica pe Mandel să mai câștige și au început să-l șicaneze cu procese de potențială fraudă, acesta a ales să plece în Statele Unite ale Americii unde a câștigat din nou în 1992 suma de 27 de milioane de dolari la Virginia State Lottery. Acum își trăiește bătrânețele în Insulele Vanuatu.
În general, câștigătorii români la loto nu au avut parte de o soartă prea generoasă, cheltuind banii în mod impulsiv și ajungând săraci într-un timp relativ scurt.
Atunci când câștigul la loto nu aduce noroc
Unul dintre aspectele cel puțin curioase este faptul că o proporție mare a câștigătorilor de loterie rămân fără niciun ban din acel câștig în aproximativ șapte ani. Mai mult decât atât, au existat numeroase cazuri în care jucători la loto au trăit evenimente nefaste ulterior. Unul dintre aceste cazuri este cel al lui Abraham Shakespeare, care după câștigarea a 30 de milioane de dolari a fost influențat de prietena sa să îi transfere bunurile ei. În 2009 Abraham a fost dat dispărut, iar în 2012 prietena lui a fost condamnată pentru omor.
Un alt caz cel puțin la fel de nefericit a fost cel al lui Jeffrey Dampier care la șapte ani după câștigarea premiului de 20 de milioane de dolari a fost răpit și împușcat în cap de fosta sa cumnată.
Mirajul câștigului la loto este fără îndoială grandios pentru mulți dintre noi. În unele cazuri achiziționarea biletului câștigător a reușit să dea sens unor vieți. Acesta a modelat viețile unora în sens pozitiv, aceștia reușind să își asigure un trai îndestulător pentru tot restul vieții. Un număr foarte mare de oameni, însă, și-a semnat sentința la moarte prin acest câștig – fie că privim această expresie într-un sens metaforic, fie propriu. Ceea ce se poate însă concluziona din experiențele extrem de diverse ale oamenilor ce au câștigat la loterie este faptul că norocul trebuie împletit cu multă chibzuință și precauție.
