We have the opportunity to present you an interview with a very special person, Maia Morgenstern. It is true, Ms. Morgenstern needs no presentation, being known for her successfully involvement in numerous theatrical and cinematographic projects in Romania and abroad, but the human Maia Morgenstern, is polyvalent, relentless and deeply involved in everything she does – actress, theatre director, directly involved in the cultural project for the restoration and repair of the building of The State Jewish Theater, which suffered damages two winters ago. Therefore, we invite you to learn about the present thoughts and those concerning the future projections of the one which was awarded the European Film Academy Award for best supporting actress in 1993.

What’s happening at the moment with the State Jewish Theater (TES) building from 15 Dr. Iuliu Barasch Street? When will the repairs be finished? What was done so far??

At the moment the State Jewish Theater building went into repair, consolidation, modernization and restoration works. The State Jewish theater is a historic monument, so this is a totally natural, extremely expected thing. We insist that this monument will be repaired, restored, protected.

We hope that the repairs will be finished as soon as possible, in order for us to be able to get back on the stage of the theatre in 15 Iuliu Barasch Street, to be able to perform our shows, to greet our beloved audience, who loves and appreciates us, given the fact that they follow us even now, in the theaters where we play. And here it is appropriate to thank you ladies and gentlemen the dear theatre directors (National Theatre, Bulandra, Comedie, Mic, Nottara), as well as to the independent theatres.

For now, the image of State Jewish theater, which is a repair building site, it’s desolate, because they break, strip and demolish things. It’s true, our heart aches, but we know that all this is happening for a noble purpose: the reconstruction and modernization of the State Jewish Theater.

How many shows are performed on TES stage at the moment? How many premiere do you have this season?

No shows are performed at this time on the stage of the Jewish State Theatre. On other scenes made available through the goodwill of our colleagues are performed in average 3-4 weekly shows of various nature. Modern performances of drama, comedy, drama or musical performances – we hope to cover a broader area in our public interest. In principle we have about 3, 4 premieres per season. In reality, we have to study very carefully how these projects and dreams can be put into practice.

What was the moment that you realized that acting is the job that suits you and that reflects your personality and aspirations as a human being?

I think that was very late, in my teens, when I was around 18 year old and in fact, my father actually was the one who revealed to me this. He said to me: „You want to be an actress, but you have the courage to accept it”. It probably was so. I never had enough time to play, as a child.

What was your experience with Radu Beligan at the premiere of „Desert Lion” by Mona Radu? It was the first time that you’ve been on the same stage with maestro.

From a certain point of view, Yes. I was lucky, privileged to work, to evolve under the directing „baton” of the Maestro Radu Beligan. I am referring to the show named Jubilee”, (a Metropolis theatre production) where I received the directing guidance of Radu Beligan.

Do you think of yourself to be a lucky person?

Yes.

The gaming industry is one viewed with prejudice in our country. What do you think about this field?

I comply with the precepts of the Jewish religious who, to my knowledge-without having to be an expert or an ultra-religious person – advises me to stay away from this area.

You are a mother, an actor, theatre director, could you also be a politician?

No…

What would be the top 3 of things you would do for people, if you had a particular power?

I think it’s up to us. Our strength is to bring a bit of joy, a smile, a tear.

What are your future projects, in the theater and in life?

Health. I only talk about projects after they are fulfilled.

Avem șansa să vă prezentăm un interviu deosebit, cu o persoană specială, Maia Morgenstern. E adevărat că doamna Morgenstern nu mai are nevoie de nici o prezentare, recunoscută fiindu-i implicarea cu deosebit succes în numeroase proiecte teatrale și cinematografice în România și străinătate, însă omul Maia Morgenstern este unul polivalent, neobosit, implicat în tot ceea ce face – actor, director de teatru, direct antrenat în proiectul cultural de restaurare și reparare a clădirii Teatrului Evreiesc de Stat, deteriorată acum două ierni. Așadar, vă invităm să aflați gândurile despre prezent și proiecțiile către viitor ale celei care a fost distinsă cu Premiul Academiei Europene de Film pentru Cea Mai Bună Actriță Europeană în anul 1993.

Ce se întâmplă în acest moment cu clădirea Teatrului Evreiesc de Stat (TES) din strada Dr. Iuliu Barasch nr. 15? Când se vor termina reparațiile? Ce s-a făcut până acum?

În clipa de faţă clădirea Teatrului Evreiesc de Stat a intrat în reparaţii, lucrări de consolidare, modernizare, restaurare. Clădirea Teatrului Evreiesc de Stat este monument istoric, aşa că este un gest absolut firesc, mult aşteptat. Ţineam ca acest monument să fie reparat, restaurat, protejat.

Sperăm că reparaţiile se vor termina cât mai repede, pentru a putea reveni pe scena teatrului din Str. Iuliu Barasch 15, pentru a ne putea susține spectacolele, pentru a ne întâmpina publicul drag, care ne iubeşte şi ne apreciază, dat fiind faptul că ne urmează chiar şi acum în teatrele unde jucăm. Şi aici se cuvine să mulţumim doamnelor şi domnilor directori ai teatrelor bucureştene (Teatrul Naţional, Bulandra, Comedie, Mic, Nottara), dar şi teatrelor independente.

Pentru moment, imaginea Teatrului Evreiesc de Stat aflat în şantier, în reparaţii, e dezolantă, deoarece se desface, se decopertează, se curăţă. E adevărat, ni se strânge sufletul, dar ştim că  toate acestea se întâmplă pentru un scop nobil: reconstrucţia şi modernizarea Teatrului Evreiesc de Stat.

Câte spectacole se joacă în acest moment pe scena TES? Câte premiere aveți în această stagiune?

În acest moment pe scena Teatrului Evreiesc de Stat nu se joacă niciun spectacol. Pe alte scene puse la dispoziţie prin bunăvoinţa colegilor se joacă în medie 3, 4 spectacole săptămânal, de facturi diferite. Spectacole moderne de dramă, comedie, dramaturgie pură sau spectacole muzicale – sperăm să acoperim o zonă cât mai întinsă, largă din interesul publicului nostru. În principiu avem cam 3, 4 premiere pe stagiune. În realitate, trebuie să studiem cu multă atenţie modul în care aceste proiecte şi vise se pot pune în practică.

Care a fost momentul care ați conștientizat faptul că meseria de actor vi se potrivește și vă reflectă personalitatea și aspirațiile ca om?

Cred că foarte târziu, în adolescenţă, către 18 ani şi de fapt tatăl meu a fost cel care mi-a revelat acest lucru. Mi-a spus: ,,Tu vrei să fii actriţă, dar n-ai curajul să-ţi mărturiseşti”. Probabil aşa a fost. N-am avut destul timp să mă joc, copil fiind.

Ce a reprezentat pentru dumneavoastră experiența trăită alături de Radu Beligan la premiera “Leul Deșertului” de Mona Radu? A fost pentru prima dată când v-ați aflat pe aceeași scenă cu maestrul.

Dintr-un anumit punct de vedere, da. Am avut norocul, privilegiul să lucrez, să evoluez sub ,,bagheta” regizorală a maestrului Radu Beligan. Mă refer la spectacolul ,,Jubileul”, (producţie a Teatrului Metropolis) unde am primit îndrumarea, în calitate de regizor, a maestrului Radu Beligan.

Vă considerați o persoană norocoasă?

Da.

Industria jocurilor de noroc este una privită cu prejudecată în țara noastră. Dumneavoastră ce părere aveți despre acest domeniu?

Mă conformez preceptelor religioase iudaice care, după ştiinţa mea – fără să fiu un expert sau o persoană ultrareligioasă – mă îndeamnă să stau deoparte de această zonă.

Sunteți mamă, actor, director de teatru, ați putea fi și politician?

Nu…

Care ar fi primele 3 lucruri care le-ați face pentru oameni, dacă ați avea o putere anume?

Cred că depinde de noi. Puterea noastră constă în a aduce o fărâmă de bucurie, un zâmbet, o lacrimă.

Care vă sunt proiectele de viitor, în teatru și în viață?

Sănătate. Despre proiecte vorbesc numai după ce se vor fi împlinit.
