Ion Oncescu is already a big name within a sport that few people understand and now he accepted a new challenge. And what could be more appropriate then another sport that again few people understand?
Ion, how did this original collaboration with 45Bet was born?
I have received a proposal and accepted it with a lot of curiosity and pleasure. I think that I was fated as since being a child, my parents told me that, unlike the other children of my age, my first words waren’t ‚mom and dad’, but ‚pass, pass’. (laughs)
Have you ever had a connection before with the game at cards?
I play poker with pleasure, and my father is very passionate of the bridge game. He is participating at competitions on a weekly basis. He was playing so much, that we got to hate him for that, both me and my mom (laughs again). He has passed to me some of that passion, but I will only play for pleasure. For as long as my arms hold me, still the arm wrestling will be my number one.
Have the poker and the arm wrestling have anything in common?
Frustratingly, many things. Everybody thinks that the only thing you need is a strong arm. Of course this is essential. But you also need a strategy and tactics, not mentioning here the luck. The audience sees only the arm force and in poker just the luck. These two sports could seem complementary by association, but they aren’t.
Has Ion Oncescu got time for poker?
Sometimes, especially at night. That’s a pretty agitated period of time for me and I have so many other ideas that I put into practice, apart from my training time.
What do you think of 45Bet project?
I wouldn’t have accepted the collaboration with 45Bet in less then 15 seconds if I wouldn’t believed in their project. The need for entertaining is unchangingly growing into a form of fighting stress and online poker is an excellent mode of relaxation. I know there are also preconceived ideas towards poker, but slowly, they will vanish, just like 15 years ago when I won the national champion title for the first time when arm wrestling was associated with sailors and convicts. I think it’s so important and beneficial that a sport, no matter which one, should have a professional side, that involves money, because only then one can reach spectacular levels of performance.Ion Oncescu este deja un nume greu într-un sport pe care puțini îl înțeleg, iar acum a acceptat o nouă provocare. Ion, cum s-a ajuns la această colaborare inedită cu 45Bet?
Am primit o propunere și am acceptat-o cu multă curiozitate și plăcere. Cred că eram predestinat, de mic părinții mi-au spus că, spre deosebire de cei de vârsta mea, primele mele cuvinte nu au fost mama și tata, ci ”Pas Pas” (râde).
Ai mai avut vreo legătură până acum cu jocurile de cărți?
Joc poker cu plăcere, iar tatăl meu este un mare pasionat al jocului de bridge și participă săptămânal la competiții. Juca atât de mult încât am ajuns să-l urâm pentru asta, atât eu, cât și mama (râde din nou). S-a transmis și la mine o parte din această pasiune, dar mă voi rezuma la a juca din plăcere. Cât mă mai țin brațele, tot skandenbergul va fi pe primul loc.
Au ceva în comun pokerul cu skandenbergul?
Frustrant de multe. Toată lumea crede că ai nevoie doar de o mână puternică. Bineînțeles că fără asta nu se poate. Dar, mai ai nevoie și de strategie și tactică, fără să mai ținem cont de un anumit gram de noroc. Publicul larg vede în skandenberg doar forța brațului, ceva oarecum sigur, iar în poker doar norocul, aceste două sporturi pot părea complementare prin asociere, dar nu este așa.
Mai are Ion Oncescu și timp pentru poker?
Câteodată, mai ales noaptea. Este o perioadă destul de agitată pentru mine și am multe alte idei pe care le pun în practică, în afara celor din cadrul orelor de antrenament.
Ce părere ai de proiectul 45Bet?
Nu aș fi acceptat colaborarea cu 45Bet în mai puțin de 15 secunde dacă nu credeam în proiectul lor. Nevoia de divertisment crește invariabil, ca o formă de contracarare a stresului și pokerul online este un mod excelent de a te relaxa. Știu că mai există și prejudecăți față de jocul de poker, dar încet, încet acestea vor dispărea, exact cum cu 15 ani în urmă când am ieșit pentru prima dată campion național, skandenbergul era asociat cu marinarii și pușcăriașii. Mi se pare foarte important și benefic ca un sport, oricare ar fi el, să aibă și o parte profesionistă, care să implice bani, pentru că doar atunci se pot atinge nivele spectaculoase ale performanței.
