UK casinos return to European Casino Association after Brexit

Thursday, 6 October 2022

Two years ago, UK land-based gambling operators had to leave the European Casino Association (ECA) as part of the country’s exit from the European Union (EU). Now, the organisation supporting casino and gambling operators is welcoming UK casinos back into the group.

Brexit caused the UK a number of problems, some of which are still present today. It has been a problematic transition, leading to rampant inflation and political unrest. However, confidence in emerging from the chaos is high.

The UK casino industry is also going through a transition, and for the same reasons, the return of the ECA could be a small glimmer of light that better days are on the horizon.

On 28 and 29 September, the ECA held its last general meeting, which was also attended by members of the organisation. During the meeting, the ECA welcomed back eight UK casino operators.

These included Aspers Group, Crown Aspinalls, Genting Casinos UK, Hippodrome Casino, Les Ambassadeurs, Mayfair Casino, Rank Group and Metropolitan Gaming. Hippodrome Casino CEO Simon Thomas led the initiative alongside the ECA board.
