More than a million accounts have been created in New York, just one week after the launch of online bookmakers.

From its launch on January 8, 2022, to January 17, 1.2 million active accounts have been created in the state’s five online sports bookmakers, with 878,000 unique players. That is more than it was recorded in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, combined, in the same period.

Only 9% of New York players have previously placed bets in New Jersey, while 88% of New York players are “new” to regulated online sports betting. The data also shows that New Yorkers are mostly loyal to a single sports betting operator, with an average of 1.36 accounts per player. As good news for New Jersey, the data shows that Garden State recorded an average of 12.6 million transactions in the two weekends before the launch in New York and 13.1 million in the two weekends since the launch.
