The middle of the year finds us in a turmoil of turmoil and turmoil that we may not have experienced since the covid pandemic, and at least then we knew we could do nothing in the face of a microscopic and parasitic virus and the inability of the authorities to fight the pandemic. Now, instead, we are witnessing a visceral hatred of an industry that has brought and perhaps will continue to bring a lot of money into the state budget and which in a way also has the role of taking grey money from the population and bringing it to light. The authorities’ zeal with which they are hitting companies and employees in our field is worthy of a better cause. They rush some regulations through Parliament for quick approval, then forget to mention anything, then criminally prosecute all those who do not obey them and exclaim with satisfaction that ‘we are dealing another blow to the gambling industry’. You have defeated, gentlemen, all those whom you have claimed loud and clear that you would protect: whether we are talking about operators (especially small companies with Romanian capital on top of that), or players, i.e. your voters, whom you have left defenceless in the face of the black market that will gradually take hold in towns with fewer than 15 000 inhabitants where you have ‘banned’ this form of entertainment. The real damage caused by your populist handling of the situation will be seen in a few years.
