Bobby Baldwin was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the United States, and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1970. As a young man, he had a knack for mathematics and excelled in subjects that required calculations.
1978 WSOP Champion
Because he loved math and patterns and had the cool head needed to excel, Baldwin headed to Vegas in the mid-1970s and won his first two bracelets at the 1977 World Series of Poker, first taking the $10,000 buy-in Deuce to Seven Draw tournament and then the $5,000 buy-in Seven-Card Stud tournament.
In 1978, he returned to the WSOP and won the WSOP Main Event, claiming the title and a prize of $210,000. The final table featured famous names in poker at the time, such as Ken Smith, Jesse Alto, Buck Buchanan, Louis Sager Hunsucker Jr., and businessman Crandell Addington, whom Baldwin ultimately defeated in heads-up play.
Fun fact: when Baldwin won the 1978 World Series of Poker Main Event at the age of 28, he was the youngest winner in the tournament’s history. This record stood until 1980, when he was dethroned by Stu Ungar.

In 1982, he became a consultant for the Golden Nugget casino, and in 1984 he was appointed its president. His leadership roles expanded when he took over management of The Mirage casino in 1987 and, later, the Bellagio casino in 1998. In 2000, following the merger of Mirage Resorts and MGM Grand, Baldwin became CEO of Mirage Resorts, a subsidiary of MGM Mirage. His career as an executive leader continued, as he oversaw major projects, including the development of the CityCenter complex in Las Vegas.
From 2005 to 2019, Baldwin led CityCenter (now Aria Campus), an integrated resort and the largest privately funded construction project in U.S. history, valued at $8.5 billion. He initially served as director of design and construction, and later as CEO of the investment entity, before becoming CEO of the operating company. The 1.7-million-square-meter mixed-use complex includes 6,800 hotel rooms and apartments, five aquatic attractions, theaters, casinos, and over a dozen renowned restaurants. His hospitality portfolio includes Aria Resort & Casino, Vdara, Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas, Veer Towers, and the Crystals shopping district, as well as the 63 retail and dining complex. These properties are among the most award-winning in North America, receiving accolades such as AAA Five-Diamond and TripAdvisor’s Best Luxury Hotel in the United States. All major buildings achieved LEED Gold certification in 2009, setting a benchmark for large-scale sustainable urban development.
