Dominik Nitsche has a future in poker for sure

Thursday, 3 November 2016

The young German player, born in the city of Minden but now resident in the UK, has come to  draw attention to himself by the superior results achieved at the age of 25, both at online and live tournaments.

He has 3 WSOP bracelets, one WPT win in South Africa, $ 3,755,924 won online and $ 6,587,651 won at live tournaments. Convincing!

He began his career in 2006 by playing online poker, like everyone else. He played on Full Tilt Poker where twice in a row he failed to qualify at the final table of Super Tuesday. After a time, somewhere in 2009, he thought it was time to make himself known at the live tables too, participating for the first time at the Latin American Poker Tour held in Mar del Plata, Argentina, winning the tournament and a valuable prize: $ 381,000.

Why „Dominator”?

He is known in the world of card games with the nickname “Dominator”. Of course, he has an aggressive style, playing many hands and always trying to use his position at the table. He dominates, leaving no room for backing off, his is bluffing, makes one dizzy to the extend that they do not know how to play anymore.

If he would also win an EPT, he would achieve a Triple Crown, the most beautiful poker success (one should win an EPT, WSOP and WPT at least once). Only five players in the history have managed it: Gavin Griffin, Roland De Wolfe, Jake Cody, Bertrand Grospellier and Davidi Kitai.

Unlike his rival of the same nationality, Fedor Holz, who plays mostly high-rollers, Dominik focuses on conventional tournaments with a ‘normal’ buy-in – 1,000 euros, 2,000 euros or 5,000 euros, but also invests 20,000 or euro 25,000, sometimes.

In addition, Nitsche plays more often and as frequently he wins money at the cash tournaments played.

He is a good friend of Philip Gruissem, another very good poker player from Germany. He has invested heavily in Dominik, a long time ago and is always there for him when he succeeds noticeable results.

Important results and the way to glory

In the same year, 2009, with his first success in a live tournament, Dominator Dominik has had a notable result at the High-roller WPT Marrakech, where he finished second, winning $ 120.885. The next year he kept the pace constantly with cashes  from 12 tournaments. The biggest win of the year was recorded at Full Tilt Poker Series Grand Final, Barcelona, from where he left with $ 92.699.

The following year he played a record number of tournaments, taking a break only in September and October. And the great results began to arive: first at 2011 Merit Middle East Poker Championship, Kyrenia, where he snatched a substantial prize – $ 164.100, in June he returned to take $ 123.366 after winning the Merit Summer Open, Kyrenia, which is located in the north of Cyprus, occupied by Turkey in 1974.

He ended the year in Loutraki, Greece, winning one of the two EPT side-events, under his record. Award: $ 47.646.

2012 is a very good year for the German. He played four WSOP events, winning one – # 59, $ 1,000 buy-in. It’s basically the biggest prize won by Dominik in his live tournament career: $ 654.797.

Towards the end of that year, in October, the German player completes the second free seat of his crown winning the WPT Johannesburg in South Africa. The check received showed: $ 206.153.

His only notable result in 2013 is a 3rd place at WSOPE held at Enghien-les-Bains in the $ 10,000 Main-Event. Over half a million dollars entered Dominik’s account.

The next year he played at the WSOP National Championship in Atlantic City, returning richer by $ 352.800. The year of 2014 comes with a new WSOP bracelet at Event # 2, where he only invested $ 1,000 buy-in to win over $ 335,000.

In the first part of last year he played more High-Roller tournaments, and hits good at High Roller 8 Handed, over $ 100,000 going into his account. In the summer of the same year he invests $ 50,000 at the Super High Roller 9 in September, Las Vegas, where he finished second and received the biggest win of his live career: $ 629.808.

Since 2009 and until now he has achieved 116 money entries! It is amazing how much he likes to play. Not to mention the nearly 250 notable online results.

He is certainly a player of great future. He will be interesting to watch the next year too, especially at the EPT events, to see if he can obtain the Triple Crown of poker.
