American Dan Smith continued his astonishing 2012 roll by taking down the €50,000 Super High Roller at EPT Barcelona Sunday night for €962,925.
The Super High Roller was the first event of Season 9 of the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour – and the richest tournament ever held in Spain. The tournament attracted a huge number of players from all over the world; a total of 55 players entered which – with nine €48,500 „re-loads” – generated a total prize pool of €3,072,960.
Smith, 23, who hails from New Jersey but now lives in Toronto, Canada, beat well-known Mexican pro JC Alvarado, 27, heads-up to take the prize. Smith has already had an incredible year, beginning back in January when he won the Aussie Millions A$100,000 Challenge for more than A$1 million. He cashed at EPT8 Berlin in April and then went on to win three separate €5,000 buy-in events the following week at the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino EPT Grand Final. He also cashed five times at the World Series of Poker this summer including third place in a $5,000 NL event for $368,943.
Along with his cash prize, Smith received a stunning bracelet from Shamballa Jewels, the Official Bracelet Sponsor of EPT9 High Roller and Super High Roller events. The bracelet, worth €8,000, incorporates precious white diamonds and 18ct rose gold in its exclusive design.
The three-day €50,000 event was the first tournament of EPT Barcelona – and is just one of four high roller events taking place during the 11-day Barcelona Poker Festival.
