Please tell us how did the pro poker adventure begin?

Five years ago I have started playing poker on the internet; at that time, I had no idea where to play live poker. I used to play freeroll tournaments on Dracula web site where I had to deposit cash; I played for about 6 years and slowly I started to win, small amounts, of course. From that moment on, I have considered I became a pro player. Of course, I took my card and made my first 150 euros deposit, and decided to increase the amount in a few days.

I started gambling in 3 euros rebuy, 5 euros rebuy and 10 euros rebuy tournaments. I lost everything in 2 days and I decided to get back to freerolls. Back then, I have received a book written by Doyle Bronson; it was such a happy coincidence. I read the book and changed my vision on poker completely. I also watched some movies about poker. After all these, I have decided to offer myself one more chance to gaming table. I started playing in tournaments where I use to gamble, for example, tournaments with guaranteed awards. Such a tournament usually had a 666 euro guaranteed award and there were 30 participants with a 6 euro buy in and re buy in. I used to win around 600 euros a week and I was satisfied with that. I considered it was time to raise the bet, which was not the best decision, because it made me turn back to the 3 euros and 6 euros re- buy tournaments. Back then, the tournaments had 5000 guaranteed, 10.000 guaranteed with 20 $, 80 $ freezout, and the first award had a total value of 250 $. I made my way to winnings for about three times, and that gave me the possibility to get a bankroll. I am not a cash player. I consider myself much of a tournament player and not a cash game player. I have decided it was the moment to start playing the tournaments within live casinos. The first casino was Napoleon, the present Olympic casino, where I used to play 200 freezout, 300 freezout, 2 tables with 20 anticipated.

What can you tell us about the winning RPC?

The funny thing is I didn’t want to participate to the tournament. I was qualified, winning two satellites that offered my participation buy in that I gave in eventually. On the last day I played a satellite that I couldn’t win. The winnings were “bubble” A and K to A and 3, 3 on river, and I left the table. A good friend of mine had a RPC qualification and gave it to me. On the first day of the tournament I played mostly for image.

The tournament started at 11-12 in the morning and ended around 9 pm, I only had 3500 chips, the blinds were pretty high, and after a couple of winning hands, I ended the day with 35000 chips on an average of 50000. On the second day I had good cards and kept my position in the game. After many interesting hands I got to the final table where I met great players, like Andrei One or Katamax. I played heads up with Katamax; I had more chips than my opponent, and that was the moment when I realized I had to play as less high pots as possible. After many hands, I got my opponent out with J and 9, flop, flush draw, on river the flush became straight and I won the tournament

What other tournaments have you participated to after RPC?

I have been to Prague, attending EPT, EPT Vilamoura where I got the fourth position on a side event and I also won the 12.000 euros award, on a tournament with 250 euros rebuy. I like playing SNGs, which I can say it really fits the Romanian poker style.

Do you have the same pleasure while playing poker?

Yes, definetly

What it’s the attraction for you- money or competition?

Both.

Where do you like poker most, on the internet or live?

I really enjoy playing live, since I can learn more about the opponent; I am face to face with the other player. It is a huge difference between live and internet gaming.

Which are the casinos you play at?

I play at Regent, the casino at Novotel, Platinium and Grand Casino, but I consider the best tournaments in Romania are organized at Regent and Platinium.

What did your family say when poker was no longer a passion and became a full time job?

I had to face my parent’s partiality. At first they were quite reticent, but they slowly noticed I love what I’m doing, I am happy with that and started to support me.

When you sit at the gaming table, which are your main trumps?

I consider myself an aggressive player, which is a good thing for the actual poker.

Since you are a tournament player, which part of a tournament do you like more?

I hate the beginning; I would rather sit out at the beginning of the tournament.  I like when blinds are higher, when the player is under pressure. I do well on heads up, also. 

What other sites are you playing poker on?

Dracula  and Pokerstars.

Which players in Romania and outside are your favorites?

Mihai Manole, Toni Judet, who endorsed agreements with the most important web sites and Liviu Ignat, very good on net cash. I like Phil Ivey, he has a special charisma.

What advice would you give to a beginner?

Do not make the mistake I made, to skip the stakes. They have to play in bank rolls, must follow the steps and grow slowly but strong, starting with the lowest stakes.Te rog să ne spui cum a început aventura ta în pokerul profesionist?

Acum 5 ani am început să joc poker pe net, la vremea aceea neștiind unde aș putea să joc live. Jucam pe siteul Dracula turnee freeroll unde nu era nevoie să depun bani, timp de vreo 6 luni am jucat acest tip de turnee și încet încet am început să câștig, desigur sume mici. În acel moment văzând că încep să câștig, am considerat că am devenit jucător de poker. Desigur am scos cardul și am facut prima depunere, cam 150 euro, pe care eram decis ca în câteva zile să îi înmulțesc exponențial. Am început să joc turnee de 3 euro cu re-buy, 5 euro cu re-buy și 10 euro cu re-buy. În 2 zile desigur am pierdut toți banii și foarte frumos m-am intors la freeroll-uri. În acele momente, coincidența a făcut să primesc, cadou o carte scrisă de Doyle Brunson, pe care desigur am citit-o și care mi-a schimbat total viziunea despre poker. De asemenea, m-am uitat pe net la diverse filmulețe despre poker. După toate acestea m-am decis să îmi mai ofer o șansă la masa de joc. Am început să joc turnee la care intram frecvent în premii, jucam de exemplu turnee cu premii garantate, un astfel de turneu avea fond de premii de 666 euro  garantat, la care participau 30 de jucatori cu un buy-in de 6 euro cu re-buy , masa shorthanded de 6 în bani intrând primele 3 locuri. Câștigam participând la astfel de turnee aproximativ 600 euro pe săptămână, eu fiind foarte mulțumit. Am considerat că este cazul să ridic miza, lucru care s-a dovedit a nu fi foarte bun, fiind nevoit să mă întorc la turneele de 3 euro cu re-buy și 6 euro cu re-buy și am ținut această miză. Pe atunci erau turnee de 5000 garantat, 10000 garantat cu 20 $, 80$ freezout, primul loc câștiga 2500$. Am câștigat de vreo 3 ori, lucru care mi-a oferit posibilitatea de a strânge un bankroll. Nu sunt un jucător de cash, eu consider că jocul meu este unul pentru turnee și nu pentru cash games. Am hotărât că este momentul să trec pe turneele din cazinourile live, astfel că am început să joc la cazinoul Napoleon actualmente Olympic unde jucam turnee 200 freezout, 300 freezout, 2 mese cu 20 participanți unde reușeam să intru frecvent în bani.

Ce ne poți spune despre RPC-ul câștigat?

Întâmplarea funny a fost că nu dorisem de la început să particip la acest turneu. Reușisem să mă calific, câștigând doi sateliți care imi oferau buy-nul de participare dar pe care i-am cedat. În ultima zi am mai jucat un satelit pe care nu am reușit să îl câștig ieșind “bubble” A și K la A și 3, a venit 3 pe river, astfel părăsind masa de joc. Un bun prieten al meu avea o calificare la RPC pe care mi-a cedat-o mie. În prima zi a turneului nu prea am avut ce să joc, am jucat mai mult din imagine, din poziție. Turneul a început dimineața la 11-12 și la ora 21 eu aveam doar 3500 de fise, blind-urile erau destul de mari și după câteva mâini câștigătoare, reușesc să termin ziua cu 35000 fise la un average de 50000. În ziua 2 am avut cărți bune și am avut noroc și de întâlniri, ceea ce m-a menținut în joc. După mai multe mâini interesante am ajuns la masa finală unde am întâlnit jucători foarte buni, cum ar fi Andrei One sau Katamax. La heads-up am jucat cu Katamax, unde am intrat cu mai multe fise decât oponentul meu, moment în care mi-a fost clar că trebuie să joc poturi cât mai puține și cât mai mari. După mai multe mâini am reușit să îl scot pe adversar  având J cu 9 am lovit două capete pe flop, aveam draw de chintă, pe river chintă s-a completat și astfel am câștigat turneul.

După episodul RPC, pe la ce turnee ai mai fost?

Am mai fost la EPT Praga, la Ept Vilamoura unde am câștigat locul 4 la un side event și am câștigat Cupa Regent și premiul de 12.000 de euro, turneul având un buy-in de 250 de euro cu rebuy. În principiu imi place să joc SNG-uri, care pot spune că se pliază foarte bine la stilul de joc al pokeriștilor români.

Acum simți aceeași plăcere de a juca poker?

Da, clar da!

Ce te atrage, ideea de competiție sau banii?

Pot spune că ambele mă atrag, atât competiția, cât și banii.

Unde iți place pokerul mai mult, pe net sau live?

Clar îmi place mai mult să joc live, pentru că astfel pot afla mai multe informații despre un jucător, dacă îl am în față, decât pe net, este altceva să joci live, clar.

Prin ce cazinouri joci?

La Regent, cazinoul de la Novotel, la Platinum și la Grand Casino, dar consider că cele mai bune turnee de la noi se organizează la Regent și Platinum.

Ce au spus cei din familia ta atunci când pokerul a trecut de la pasiune la un job fulltime?

Am avut de înfruntat oarecum prejudecățile părinților care la început erau mai reticenți, dar care încet, încet, au observat că fac ceea ce îmi place, că sunt fericit, astfel că au acceptat și acum mă încurajează în tot ceea ce întreprind.

Ce atuuri consideri că ai în momentul acesta când te așezi la masa de poker?

Consider că sunt agresiv, agresivitate ce se pliază bine pe jocul de poker actual.

Pentru că ești jucător de turnee, care este partea dintr-un turneu care îți place cel mai mult?

Pot spune că nu îmi place deloc începutul, aș prefera să stau în sit-out la începutul turneului. Îmi place când blind-urile sunt mai mari când este presiune pe jucători și pot spune că mă descurc și la heads-up.

Pe ce siteuri mai joci poker?

Pe Dracula și Pokerstars.

Ce jucători de poker îți plac din Romania și din afară?

Ar fi cei care au semnat cu siteurile mari și anume Mihai Manole, Toni Judet și mai îmi place foarte mult de Liviu Ignat, care este foarte bun la cash pe net. Din afară îmi place de Phil Ivey pentru că are o carismă aparte.

Ce sfaturi ai da unui beginner ?

Să nu facă greșeala pe care am făcut-o eu, să sară mizele. Trebuie să joace în bank- roll, trebuie să treacă prin toate etapele și să crească natural începând de jos de la cele mai mici mize.
