For more than a decade, Criss Angel has been dominating the world of magic and can be considered one of the main figures in the field. His visionary approach of the art of escape has left the traditional borders, creating a new style of modern mysticism. Oprah Winfrey declared, recently, that: ”Criss is the best, the best. THE BEST!”
Born on December 19th, 1967, Christopher Nicholas Sarantakos, known by his stage name, Criss Angel, is one of the greatest magicians we have ever seen. The beginning of his career was in New York, from where he “immigrated” to Las Vegas and where he found true fame and international recognition.
The launching ramp in the wide world, for our famous magician, was the TV show Mindfreak and the live show Chriss Angel Believe, supported in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil at Luxor Casino Las Vegas. This show alone brought tourism incomes in the amount of $ 150 million by 2016, when it was replaced by the new show, Mindfreak LIVE, which is still produced with Cirque du Soleil, yet the directing rights are entirely held by Angel.

The show that has temporarily replaced the Believe show was named Criss Angel Magician and also took place on the Luxor Theatre premises. The new show’s cast included the illusionist and comedian Nathan Burton, Banachek, world famous mentalist, the lady magician Krystyn Lambert, Jason Byrne and Tony Clarke. The entire production was designed and directed by Criss Angel who, naturally, was the main character of the show.
In 2014, there was the premiere of Mindfreak LIVE! A show where Criss Angel proved his skills in the art of illusionism and which received excellent reviews from the critics. This show has marked the moment when Criss left Las Vegas, for a short period, in order to perform at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut, this being the location chosen for the premiere.
The premiere of the new show, Supernaturalists, took place in 2015, also at Foxwoods Resort Casino’s, The Fox Theater, Criss Angel having once again the position of creator, director and executive producer.
An entire suite of performance artists had well defined roles in the new performance, so that Landon Swank, Krystyn Lambert, Spencer Horsman, Banachek and others entertained the public with their tricks and magic. Robin Leach classified the show as being the “most blowing-mind magic show ever staged”. Angel declared that this show is the result of 10 years of personal development, begun in 2005, the intention being to start a world tour.
Through the tricks performed in the live and TV shows, Criss Angel proves uniqueness and a desire to perform. He declared at a certain point: “I stood apart from other magicians while I was young, because I didn’t want to think like them, I wanted to create my own style”.
Angel has several world records; including the longest time spend under water; the quickest escape from a straightjacket – in just 2 minutes and 30 seconds; the longest time spent suspended, with 5 hours and 42 minutes; the shortest time to perform “Metamorphosis” – less than one second. He is the holder of the Guinness World Record for “most people to disappear through an illusion”, during the Believe show at Luxor, on May 26th, 2010. In 2009, Criss Angel received the award Magician of the Decade, and in 2010, he received the title Magician of the Century, from the International Magicians Society. He also holds the record for most hours spent on prime-time TV, compared to other magicians.
Criss Angel is the most watched magician in the history of Internet, a true YouTube sensation. The video “Walk on Water” has generated over 46 million views, overall, the his videos generating over 200 million views. Recently, the performer’s personal YouTube channel was launched, where he frequently posts exclusive content.
Besides from the magic shows, Criss Angel is also the author of the bestseller “Mindfreak: Secret Revelations”, published by Harper Entertainment in 2007. According to Las Vegas Sun “the 295 page book details the beginning of his career, the memorable TV performances and the personal thoughts”. The book also contains photos, providing step by step the instructions for 40 of the Mindfreaks show tricks.
On a personal level, the artist has been divorced since 2005. In 2002, he married his partner, JoAnn Winkhart. Among the relationships following 2005, there were Holly Madison, Hugh Hefner’s ex girlfriend and others.
As any respectable celebrity, Criss Angel is involved in charitable events. Ca orice vedetă care se respect, Criss Angel este implicat și în acțiuni caritabile astfel că organizează spectacole împreună cu alți colegi, donațiile strânse fiind direcționate în proporție de 100% către cercetarea și tratamentul cancerului pediatric.
