RANK 1 – GUILLAUME DARCOURT

Please tell us a few things about you, about your background…

I started to prepare 6 years ago and 1 year after, I was accepted in the 770 team of Professionals. I’ve been the captain of this team for 1 year and a half, a team which has 7 players. I’ve also had some performances online and few in live, like in the Partouche Poker Tour in France, in EPT Dublin or EPT Deauville, but this is for sure my best experience yet.

What can you tell us about this experience with WPT in Bucharest?

Except for the fact that I am the winner and it will be for sure one of the best memories in my life, I can say only nice things. I can tell you a short story about this tournament, where I fell very short in the second level, as I had some terrible hands and I was left with 3.000 chips. I somehow managed to bring these 3000 chips to 7000 and won that hand with nine and aces. I was the eighth player in the first day, and starting from the second, I was always the first.

You seem to have a lot of confidence in yourself and you were always the leader of your table…

Yes, I know that I have a rather aggressive style, everyone that saw me playing said that. I play a lot of hands and I am usually not afraid that people are going to see my bluffs, even those which are bad. I do this because it helps, people can never know which hands are played for real and which are not. Some might call it a crazy style, but it is my style.

How much money you have won from live tournaments?

I think I have won somewhere around 190.000 Dollars. But with this winning, I’m going to have a better performance.

Who is the poker player that you like the most?

I was really impressed by Gus Hansen with whom I have played in Partouche Poker Tour. I liked his style. I am not that crazy, but I am closer to his style than any other; what impressed me the most was the tournament lasted for 4 days, and in the last day we had the final table. We started around2 o’clock in the afternoon and we finished at 8.30 in the morning. After 4 intensive days and all night, this player was so fresh, it was like he had just got out of the shower. We, the other players, we were all tired and empty, but he was not. I said to myself that this is the difference that makes the great champions.

What can you tell us about the Romanian players that you have met here, at WPT?

It is a very difficult question, because I have met a lot of Romanian players and I saw many of them who played very good, with a very constant strategy. However, I also saw some that seemed not to be sure of their actions. But the last players left were very serious and played really tight.

RANK 2 SIMON MUNZ

What could you tell us about your background as a poker player?

I started to play poker at the end of 2006 and I played online, for $ 5 low limit. I played poker with fixed limit, up to 100-200 Dollars, but then I learned No-limit as well. Right now I play on Poker Players Online (PPO) and for the past 4 years I’ve been playing some live tournaments, in order to get on the live scene.

Which were the most important tournaments you have participated to?

I’ve played around 4 or 5 EPTs and the WSOP Main Event, which is probably the most important I’ve ever played. This is my first WPT and it is a nice tournament as well.

What is your impression about WPT Bucharest?

I was the second winner so it was nice. I think I played really good and it was a nice tournament for me.

If it were to define you style, how would you describe yourself as a poker player?

I think that what I can do best is to analyze how people play and be able to re-adapt. I usually play more aggressive, but now I had to play really tight and wait for the hands. It is really difficult when you don’t have the big stack. Basically, I can say that I can play any type, as I have a lot of experience. I’ve played online around 2 million hands.

Why did you choose poker?

I really don’t know, I used to play Starcraft, but when I tried poker it was really impressive and I still like it. You always learn new things, it is like a game with no end. I like the competition and, of course, the money. I don’t think I will play it for all my life, but for now, I love it.

What can you tell us about the Romanian players?

There were some very good players, but in general, I believe that they were passive. The better players in this tournament were for sure the foreigners.

What are your future plans?

I think I will participate at every tournament possible and play a lot of online and live poker. I will definitely play in Monte Carlo, the WSOP probably as well and I will start playing some WPTs. In general I would like to play some live TV cash games, like for example the one from Party Poker or some European TV cash games.

RANK 3 – JOSEPH EBANKS

Please tell us a few things about you as a poker player…

I play live tournaments all over the world and usually I play on my own money. I used to play with a buy-in of 10,000 or 15,000 dollars, but didn’t have the best results, so now I only play in what I can get on satellite.

Is this your first live tournament?

No, I’ve played in many live tournaments. This is not my best position yet, I’ve won a couple of side events of about 100,000 Dollars.

What type of poker player description fits you best?

I don’t have a specific strategy, I try to adapt to my table, to see how everyone plays. For example, at this table, the Frenchman was really aggressive so I tried to play really tight. I was lucky to double up and get down to three-handed, but when I play against weaker players, I play really aggressive.

How would you describe your experience with WPT in Bucharest?

It was good, I liked the hotel we were checked in, the staff was really nice, it was organized well… However, I didn’t like the day off before the final table.

What can you tell us about the Romanian players you have encountered?

Some of them played really good, especially the ones from the final tables, who were very tough. Though, I saw some who were very weak and made a lot of mistakes.

Why did you choose to play poker?

Basically because I like money and this is how I earn my living.Prima ediţie a acestui important turneu a dat şansa unora să se afirme, iar altora, să-şi repoziţioneze statutul.

Spune-ne câteva cuvinte despre începuturile tale în poker…

Am început să mă antrenez acum 6 ani, iar la numai un an de când am început, am fost admis în echipa 770 de profesioniști. De 1 an și jumătate sunt liderul echipei, ce are 7 membri. Am avut câteva performanțe în pokerul online și câteva în cel live, precum în turneul  Partouche Poker Tour din Franța, în EPT Dublin sau EPT Deauville, dar asta este cu siguranță cea mai bună perfomanță a mea.

Ce ne poți spune despre această experiență de la WPT București?

Excluzând faptul că am câștigat turneul și că va rămâne cu sigurnață una dintre cele mai frumoase amintiri din viața mea, nu am decât cuvinte de laudă. Dacă e sa vă fac o scurtă istorie a acestui turneu, am fost foarte aprope să ies la tura a doua, când am rămas cu doar 3.000 de jetoane. Am reușit cumva să transform aceste jetoane în 7.000, câștigând mâna cu nouari și ași. Am fost al 8-lea jucător clasat în prima zi, însă începând cu a doua, m-am clasat tot timpul pe primul loc.

Păreai a avea foarte multă încredere în forțele proprii și ai fost tot timpul cel care conducea jocul la masă…

Da, știu că am un stil agresiv, toți cei care m-au văzut jucând au spus asta. Joc multe mâini și de obicei nu îmi este frică să mă vadă ceilalți blufând, chiar și la blufurile mai rele. Fac asta pentru că mă ajută mai încolo în joc, pentru că oamenii nu își pot da seama dacă mâinile jucate sunt bune sau nu. Poate că unii îl privesc ca pe un stil nebunesc, însă este stilul meu.

Câți bani ai câștigat până acum din poker?

Cred că am câștigat undeva în jurul sumei de 190.000 dolari. Dar cu victoria asta, o să am o cifră mai mare, cu siguranță.

Care este jucătorul preferat de poker?

Am rămas foarte impresionat de Gus Hansen, alături de care am jucat în Partouche Poker Tour. Mi-a plăcut stilul lui. Nu sunt chiar atât de nebun ca el, însă cred că mă apropii cel mai mult. Ce m-a impresionat cel mai mult a fost că turneul a durat 4 zile, iar în ultima zi se juca masa finală. Am început în jurul orei 2 după-masă și am terminat undeva la orele 8:30 dimineața. După 4 zile de joc intens și după noaptea asta, acest tip era atât de fresh de parcă tocmai ar fi ieșit de la duș. Noi, toți ceilalți, eram foarte obosiți și goi, însă el nu. Mi-am spus atunci că asta e diferența care face marii campioni.

Ce ne poți spune despre jucătorii români pe care i-ai întâlnit aici?

Este o întrebare foarte dificilă, pentru că am întalnit mulți jucători români și am văzut că mulți dintre ei au jucat foarte bine, având o strategie constantă. Cu toate acestea, am văzut și mulți care nu știau exact ce vor să facă. Ultimii jucători rămași au fost însă foarte serioși și au jucat foarte bine.

LOCUL 2 – SIMON MUNZ

Ce ne poți spune despre începutul de drum în poker?

Am început să joc poker în 2006; la început am jucat online, pe jocuri cu limită de 5 dolari, apoi am jucat cu limită de pot, mergând până la 100-200 dolari, după care m-am învățat și cu cel fără limită de pot. Acum joc la Poker Players Online (PPO), iar în ultimii 4 ani am jucat și la turnee live, pentru a intra și pe scena aceasta.

Care sunt cele mai importante turnee la care ai participat?

Am jucat în jur de 4 sau 5 turnee EPT, WSOP Main Event, care este probabil și cel mai important, și acest WPT, care este un turneu frumos.

Care este impresia pe care ţi-a lăsat-o WPT București?

M-am clasat pe locul doi, deci una plăcută. Cred că am jucat foarte bine și a fost un turneu frumos pentru mine.

Dacă ar fi să îţi definesti stilul de joc, cum te-ai caracteriza?

Cred că lucrul pe care îl fac cel mai bine este să analizez modul în care joacă ceilalți și să mă adaptez. De obicei joc mult mai agresiv, însă acum a trebuit să joc strâns și să aștept mâinile bune. Este foarte greu când nu ești tu cel cu stiva mai mare de jetoane. În principiu pot spune că pot juca oricum, pentru că am multă experiență. Am jucat în jur de 2 milioane de mâini online.

De ce ai ales pokerul?

Chiar nu știu exact. Înainte jucam Starcraft, dar când am încercat să joc poker am rămas foarte impresionat și încă îmi place. Înveți tot timpul lucruri noi, e ca un joc fără sfârșit. Îmi place competiția, dar și banii, desigur. Nu cred că voi face asta toată viața, însă, pentru moment, îmi place la nebunie.

Ce ne poți spune despre jucătorii români?

Au fost cîțiva jucători foarte buni, însă majoritatea erau pasivi. Cei mai buni jucători din acest turneu au fost cu siguranță străinii.

Care sunt planurile de viitor?

Cred că voi participa la orice turneu la care pot și voi juca în continuare mult poker online și live. Voi merge cu siguranță să joc la Monte Carlo, probabil și  la WSOP și voi începe să fiu mai activ în WPT. Mi-ar plăcea să joc și în câteva jocuri live televizate, ca cel de la Party Poker sau cele europene.

LOCUL 3 – JOSEPH EBANKS

Povesteşte-ne puțin despre tine în postura de jucător de poker…

De obicei joc în turnee din toată lumea și fac asta pe banii mei. Obișnuiam să joc la game-uri cu buy-in de 10.000 sau 15.000 dolari, însă nu am avut cele mai bune rezultate în felul acesta, așa că m-am decis să joc unde mă pot califica din sateliţi.

Acesta este primul turneu live?

Nu, am jucat în numeroase turnee de poker live. Locul pe care m-am clasat acum nu este cea mai bună performantă a mea; am câștigat două evenimente în valoare de 100.000 dolari.

Care ar fi tipologia de jucător care te-ar descrie cel mai bine?

Nu am o strategie exactă, încerc să mă adaptez la masă, să văd cum joacă fiecare. Spre exemplu, la masa asta, francezul era foarte agresiv așa că a trebuit să joc foarte strâns. Am fost norocos să îmi dublez suma și să ajung la ultimele trei mâini, însă când joc împotriva unora mai slabi, joc foarte agresiv.

Cum ai caracteriza experiența de la WPT București?

A fost bine, mi-a plăcut hotelul unde am fost cazați, personalul a fost foarte drăguț, organizarea a fost bună… Totuși, nu mi-a plăcut pauza de o zi dinaintea mesei finale.

Ce ne poți spune despre jucătorii români pe care i-ai întâlnit?

Unii dintre ei au jucat foarte bine, în special cei de la mesele finale, unde jocul a fost dur. Am văzut însă și jucători slabi, care au făcut multe greșeli.

De ce ai ales să joci poker?

În principiu pentru că îmi plac banii și acesta este modul în care îmi câștig existența.
